Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling uses very fine needles and thousands of micro-injuries are made with these. This involves the use of different substances that are inserted into the skin. These substances are specially tailored to the problem you are being treated for. The needles penetrate the epidermis at different depths (possibly into the dermis). In this process, the epidermis remains largely intact. This is because the needles do not create "real" wounds but actually push the cells aside. This creates "channels" that allow substances to penetrate deeper into the skin.

The skin reacts to these damages and a number of processes are triggered. It uses what is known as embryonic wound healing, which is ideal as it does not cause scarring. Research shows that microneedling can cause skin improvement by optimising cell functions. Thus, the production of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid in the dermis is stimulated.
