Saxenda®
What is Saxenda®?
Saxenda® is a weight management medicine and contains the active ingredient liraglutide. It is similar to the natural hormone GLP-1 released from the intestines after a meal.
Saxenda® acts on receptors in the brain that regulate your appetite and makes you feel satisfied and less hungry. This can help you eat less and reduce your body weight.

What is this medicine used for?
Adults
Saxenda® is indicated as an adjunct to a low-calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight management in adult patients with an initial body mass index (BMI) of:
≥ 30 kg/m² (obese), or
≥ 27 kg/m² to < 30 kg/m² (overweight) who have at least one weight-related comorbidity, such as dysglycaemia (prediabetes or diabetes mellitus type 2), hypertension, dyslipidaemia or obstructive sleep apnoea.
Treatment with Saxenda® should be discontinued if the patient has not lost at least 5% of their initial body weight after 12 weeks of use of the daily dose of 3.0 mg.
Adolescents (≥12 years)
Saxenda® may be used as an adjunct to healthy diet and increased physical activity for weight management in adolescent patients aged 12 years and older with:
obesity (BMI corresponding to ≥ 30 kg/m² for adults according to international limits) and
body weight above 60 kg.
Treatment with Saxenda® should be discontinued and reconsidered if the patient has not lost at least 4% of their BMI or BMI z-score (standard deviation score) after 12 weeks of use of the daily dose of 3.0 mg or the maximum tolerated dose.
