Chemical peelings
What is chemical peels?
A chemical peel causes the top damaged layer of the skin to loosen. This involves allowing the skin to peel, stimulating the skin to produce new skin cells. The peel causes the skin to renew itself in seven to 10 days. This rapid renewal causes fine lines and pigmentation, repairs sun damage and refines coarse skin texture. In addition, peeling makes your skin tighter, smoother and younger, regardless of your age, skin tone or skin type.
We work with the peelings of Dermaceutic.
What can peelings be used for?
We work with medical peels performed by a plastic surgeon, cosmetic doctor or our skin therapists. These are suitable for everyone. Whether you want to give your skin a boost or if you want to tackle skin problems. The peelings can be applied for various indications:
- Acne
- Acne scars
- Ageing skin
- Grey skin
- Rosacea
- Pigmentation spots
- Skin improvement
What chemical peels are there?
There are different types of peels and within the clinic we distinguish between superficial, medium and deep peels. Deep peelings should only be applied by doctors or skin therapists.
Superficial peelings
Superficial peels usually consist of alpha hydroxy acids (also called fruit acids) cleanse your skin, stimulate circulation and give your skin a refreshing makeover. They are also suitable for treating acne and blackheads. These peelings contain acids in low concentrations, have mainly a cleansing effect and make you glow beautifully. Examples of these peeling types are salicylic acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid and mandelic acid or the Skintech Easy Droxy Peel.
What does salicylic acid do?
Salicylic acid speeds up the healing of inflammations such as those caused by acne and blackheads. The result: intensely soft and clean skin.
What does glycolic acid do?
Glycolic acid improves hydration. Glycolic acid has powerful exfoliating properties that stop ageing and repair damaged skin. Also, this acid also has a firming effect on the skin. For example, for a bride who wants to improve her skin just before her beautiful day or for people who can see UV damage on their skin. The result: an even complexion of the skin.
What does lactic acid do?
Lactic acid has the property of helping the skin maintain its ideal pH level, making it less aggressive. A lactic acid peel is suitable for people with very sensitive skin who may not be able to tolerate more intensive peels, therefore also suitable for rosacea. Lactic acid moisturises, brightens and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
Medium peelings
If you care about skin rejuvenation or improvement involves or treating certain skin problems (think pigmentation, sallow skin, large pores and scars caused by acne, for example), then medium peelings are more effective. These peelings contain different acids (usually trichloroacetic acid or TCA) with a different mechanism of action than fruit acids - they can penetrate deeper into the skin layer and have a higher 'abrasive' capacity. A medium peel will make you peel, which is necessary to get rid of that troublesome spot or wrinkle; this is real skin improvement. After a TCA peeling, you usually shed the most from day 3 to 5.
What does trichloroacetic acid (TCA) do?
TCA penetrates deep into the skin and improves its structure by removing the top layer of skin. This stimulates cell division. TCA also stimulates collagen production and has an anti-inflammatory effect. This peeling is suitable for acne, coarse pores, fine lines, a ageing skin and at pigmentate.
Due to the deep effect of TCA, we perform this treatment only during the autumn and winter periods!
Deep peelings
If your skin shows deep wrinkles and has suffered a lot of damage from sun and/or smoking, for example, or simply because you are already a bit older, a deep peel can 'replace' your skin with 'new' skin.
Deep peels come in grades deep, deeper and deepest. Which one is most suitable for you depends on what your skin needs to make a very big rejuvenating leap in 1 session. These deep peels consist of phenol, often in combination with TCA.
Since deep wrinkles often occur locally, for example on the upper lip and around the eyes, a deep peel can also be performed on small, partial areas. The rest of the face is then done with a medium peel. This way, undergoing a deep peel is less intense.
