Botox is mainly used for wrinkles caused by facial expressions, such as frown lines (between the eyebrows), forehead wrinkles and crow's feet (around the eyes). The treatment temporarily relaxes these muscles, causing wrinkles to gradually fade even when your face is at rest. Botox can also be used for an overactive chin, a gummy smile, or drooping corners of the mouth.
After a few days, the effect of the Botox becomes visible, and after two weeks, the results are optimal. The skin around the treated wrinkles becomes smoother as time goes on, especially for deeper wrinkles.
The effect of a Botox treatment usually lasts for three to five months. With regular treatments, the results can last longer. Deeper wrinkles or stronger muscles may require treatment every three to four months in the beginning for best results.
Within the first week, you may experience mild sensitivity. Sometimes bruising, mild stiffness, tingling or a heavy feeling appear around the treated areas, such as the eyebrows. These side effects usually disappear within 10 days.
Yes, Botox is a safe and approved drug that has been used in medicine for more than 40 years. The active ingredient (botulinum toxin) only affects the treated muscles and does not affect the rest of the body.
